4 Project Researcher positions within Information Technology cluster

Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) is an internationally acknowledged research university with an extensive responsibility for providing education in Swedish in Finland. With its international research community and its strong Nordic ties, Åbo Akademi University has an accalaimed and recognized position within research and education both nationally and internationally.

Åbo Akademi University now invites applications for a Project Researcher within Information Technology cluster at the Faculty of Science and Engineering in Turku.

The appointments will be for one year, starting preferably from January 1st 2019 until December 31st 2019, with possible extensions to be negotiated at a later stage.

The Software Technology Research Center at Åbo Akademi University (https://research.it.abo.fi/ST) creates software based solutions for the digitalisation of industry and society. The center combines expertise in software quality, analytics, high-performance and energy-efficient computing to create services and tools that provide high added- value to our partners. Our research effort is currently focused towards the industrial internet, autonomous safety-critical systems, and novel application areas of datascience. The center has strong collaboration with the Industry, and Academia. (www.tucs.fi, http://mastinstitute.fi/, https://alliedict.fi/)

We are now looking to expand our teams and are offering postdoctoral Project Researcher positions in the following areas:

1. Validation and Verification of software intensive systems: the work will take place in one of the externally funded projects running at the department, such as MegaM@Rt2. The main focus of the research will be on techniques such as model-driven development, model validation, model checking, and model-based (online and offline) test generation for left-shifting the V&V activities in industrial settings.

2. Data analytics for machine diagnostics, predictive maintenance operational optimization. The objective is to develop algorithms and methodology that use real-time and collected sensor data from machinery and equipment to produce added value to equipment owners and maintenance providers. The work is in the area of IoT, Digital Twin and Industrial Internet. The work is performed in close collaboration with industrial partners.

3. Analysis of library borrowing behavior in Finland. The goal is to develop tools and techniques useful for sociologists and literature scientist that are interested in answer questions like "What is distinctive for the transition from one cluster of books (say youth books) to another (say adult books)?" The work will use tools and techniques for Machine learning (social network analysis, recommendation systems, predictive analytics, and uncertainty analysis)

4. Uncertainty and forward modelling of geological structures. Together with Geological Survey of Finland we model mineral deposits and calculate their gravitational and magnetic fields. The work involves GPU programming, enabling the user to see online the impact of model changes to observable quantities. An extension of the modelling to include electrical conductivity is planned.

To strenghten our teams we are now hiring Project Researchers in the areas of:

- Validation and Verification of software intensive systems

- Data analytics for machine diagnostics, predictive maintenance operational optimization

- Analysis of library borrowing behavior in Finland

- Uncertainty and forward modelling of geological structures.

We expect you to participate in the research on one of these various topics initiated at the Software Technology Research Center.

Project researchers follow the system of a total working time of 1624 h/year. The work tasks are annually specified in a work plan.

In accordance with the Personnel Regulations of Åbo Akademi University (accepted by the University Board 17.8.2017) a doctoral degree is a pre-requisite for employment as a Project Researcher.
